An oophorectomy, the surgical removal of one or both ovaries, is one of the most effective, least invasive treatment options for a range of uterine conditions. If you are undergoing an oophorectomy, you may be a candidate for a robotic oophorectomy. Performed using the da Vinci® S HD Surgical System, a robotic oophorectomy requires only a few small incisions and offers several benefits.
Robotic oophorectomy offers numerous potential benefits over traditional approaches to vaginal, laparoscopic, or open abdominal oophorectomy, particularly when performing more challenging procedures for gynecologic cancer or when working around delicate and confined structures like the bladder.
With better visualization of the surgical site and dissection capabilities beyond the human hand, the da Vinci Surgical System is particularly advantageous for performing robotic oophorectomies involving adhesions from prior pelvic surgery or non-localized cancer, or an abdominal hysterectomy.
As with any surgery, these benefits cannot be guaranteed, as surgery is both patients- and procedure-specific. While a robotic oophorectomy performed using the da Vinci Surgical System is considered safe and effective, the procedure may not be appropriate for everyone. We will work with you and your primary care physician to discuss treatment options, as well as their risks and benefits.
