At Newark-Wayne Community Hospital's Marshall Birthing Center, we have a team of experienced, compassionate physicians, midwives, and nurses ready to partner with you throughout your delivery. We are proud to be family-centered, a birthing center that takes your goals seriously and communicates through every step of your delivery. During your stay, our baby-friendly staff will care for you and your new arrival around the clock and are available to answer questions 24-hours-a-day, even after you head home. With our state-of-the-art obstetrical services, Newborn Care Team, and family-centered approach, you can deliver with confidence, knowing that you and your baby are in the safest hands. Our Neonatologists and Pediatricians work side-by-side with our obstetric and nursing staff to ensure round-the-clock care for both you and your new baby.
Each baby is unique and special - and so is each delivery and recovery. At Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, we offer multiple birthing options that allow you to customize your experience according to your needs, in an emotionally supportive, culturally sensitive environment. This approach helps you and your baby get off to a great start together.
Our six suites accommodate all three phases of childbirth - labor, delivery, and recovery. Each suite is equipped with amenities to make you feel more at ease during labor and delivery, including a comfortable and adjustable bed, a private bathroom and shower, a rocking chair, and satellite tv. Accommodations can be made for a support person to stay overnight, and there is ample space for visitors during the postpartum period in your private postpartum room. Room service menus for postpartum moms offer a wide variety of tasty selections (including vegetarian options) from 8:00 am until 10:00 pm.
Your nurse will make sure you and your baby have what you need when you need it. Our nurses are highly trained in all aspects of routine and high-risk labor and delivery. Your nurse will also provide the most up-to-date education for taking care of your newborn.
At Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, we are dedicated to caring for women who have had surgery. Moms who deliver by Cesarean section have caregivers with specialized expertise, which maximizes your recovery process.
Whether your C-section is scheduled ahead of time or performed by our exceptionally trained rapid response team, you and your baby will be transferred to the recovery room, with skin-to-skin contact introduced as soon as your baby is stable, to start the bonding process.
Throughout your hospital stay, we will keep you informed, comfortable and secure in the knowledge that we are committed to the health and safety of both you and your baby.
Our newborn nursery staff can assist with required pre-discharge procedures, such as a New York State hearing screening and metabolic blood testing. The nursery is staffed by physicians, pediatric nurse practitioners and nurses to assist on an as-needed basis. We support and encourage "rooming in" for our families to help with the bonding process and to promote an excellent bedside teaching environment.
