Nursing is an integral part of Rochester Regional Health. Whether at Rochester General Hospital, Unity Hospital, Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic, United Memorial Medical Center, Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Gouverneur Hospital, Massena Hospital, or any of our other Rochester Regional Health affiliates, our nurses use a patient-centered care approach that supports the whole person; promotes physical, mental, and spiritual health; and is sensitive to the patient’s and family’s cultural, religious and ethical responses to illness and wellness.

What nurses do isn’t easy – it takes dedication and commitment and is both physically and mentally challenging. Our nurses are passionate about what they do and they continue to raise the bar. For our nurses, clinical excellence is more than competence and skill; it’s about caring for our patients, each other and our profession.

Team Nursing Model of Care

In the Team Nursing Model of care delivery at Rochester Regional Health, the professional nurse utilizes critical thinking skills to lead the care team and delegate aspects of care delivery. Our nurses follow the organization’s Guiding Principles, the New York State Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association Standards of Practice, and Code of Ethics as the foundation for our commitment to patient care and professional practice.

Patient care and professional practice require clinical competence to achieve critical thinking, decision-making, and collaboration. Therefore, support is provided for evidence-based practice, on-going professional development, participation in discussion regarding patient care issues, decision-making forums and quality improvement.

We are pleased to share our 2023-2024 Nursing Annual Report with you.

2022 SLH Nursing Annual Report

Awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the Pathway to Excellence designation is granted to healthcare organizations that empower and engage nursing staff in creating and sustaining an environment where nurses grow and thrive. As a Pathway-designated organization, our nurses live Pathway through the work they do every day. By engaging in the Pathway Standards of shared decision-making, leadership, safety, quality, well-being, and professional development, nurses in the St. Lawrence Region bring their voices forward to build and sustain a positive practice environment.

The journey to this designation involved every nurse in our three hospitals and off-site offices alike, and we are the only system of hospitals in New York State to achieve this standing

We are proud of our nursing team, many of whom are already actively involved in building a positive practice environment, the foundation of a Pathway to Excellence designation.

Learn more about the Pathway to Excellence journey. Our three hospitals are currently working toward gaining Magnet Recognition status.
