Sinus & Nasal Conditions We Treat

As ENTs fellowship-trained in rhinology, we apply our expertise to treat patients medically or surgically with chronic sinus and nasal conditions. Conditions we treat include:

  • Deviated nasal septum
  • Nasal congestion
  • Nasal obstruction
  • Nasal polyps
  • Nose bleeds
  • Sinus infection (sinusitis)
  • Sinus pressure
  • Throat irritation and postnasal drip
  • Upper respiratory tract infections

The ENT team at Rochester Regional Health will assess your unique symptoms and find what is causing your sinus and nasal discomfort. We understand that these symptoms significantly impact your life and will work to see you quickly and create a personalized treatment plan focused on you.

In most cases, we can perform office-based procedures to diagnose your condition or may refer you to one of our expert allergists at Rochester Regional Health. Our team makes every effort to treat you with medications first, and if surgery is necessary, we use state-of-the-art, image-guided sinus surgical endoscopic techniques to diagnose and treat sinus and nasal problems.

Our Sinus & Nasal Treatments

We apply our expertise as ENTs to thoroughly examine your symptoms and find the right surgical or minimally-invasive treatment option for you. Fellowship-trained, the volume, and experience of cases, as well as the complexity of cases we’ve performed, allow us to provide exceptional care close to home.

Commonly called nose bleeds, epistaxis are very common issues that typically resolve on their own or are treated easily in a medical environment.

Your treatment for nose bleeds will depend on what is causing them, but may include:

  • Cauterization - during this procedure your ENT will apply a chemical substance or heat energy to the bleeding blood vessel. A local anesthetic will be sprayed in your nostril first to numb the inside of your nose.
  • Ligation - in this procedure, the misbehaving blood vessel is tied off to stop nose bleeding.
  • Medication - reducing the number of blood-thinning medications may help. Additionally, medications that control your blood pressure may be helpful.
  • Nasal packing - foam, gauze, or special nasal sponges can be inserted into your nose to create pressure at the site of your bleed. The material is usually left for 24-48 hours before it’s removed by your ENT.
  • Surgical repair - your ENT surgeon will repair your broken nose or correct a deviated septum if that is the cause of your chronic nosebleed.

Maxillofacial trauma is physical trauma to your facial region. Treating facial trauma is often complex and requires experience and precision. Your RRH ENT surgeon will work towards enhancing your airway control, controlling any bleeding, reducing your swelling, preventing infection, repairing bone fractures, repairing lacerations, and reconstructing your face.

If you have tried medications, immunotherapy, and other treatments without experiencing relief from symptoms, your ENT may suggest surgical intervention. Your sinus surgery will focus on restoring the natural function of your sinus. Our surgical options include:

  • Functional endoscopic sinus surgery
  • Inferior turbinate reduction
  • Nasal polyp removal
  • Septoplasty
  • Functional Septorhinoplasty
  • Sinonasal tumors (link to skull-based surgery page)
