Once considered an inevitable consequence of aging, osteoporosis can be more easily and effectively managed today for the vast majority of patients. With new early-detection techniques and osteoporosis treatment options, more osteoporosis patients can enjoy and maintain active, healthy lifestyles.
The providers at The Center for Osteoporosis, an office of Rochester Regional Health, have years of experience in osteoporosis detection and treatment. Our team can provide exceptional specialty care as a vital part of any osteoporosis comprehensive treatment plan.
Depending on the patient’s specific diagnosis, initial referrals to The Center for Osteoporosis may involve a consult with a Rochester Regional specialist trained in endocrinology or rheumatology, and/or continued osteoporosis management. After a thorough review of the patient’s medical history, our team will carefully review past lab reports and other tests, and order additional tests as needed. Any previously conducted bone density scans will be evaluated; if no DEXA scan has yet been conducted, one will be obtained at an approved center that is convenient for the patient.
A personalized osteoporosis treatment plan is devised in collaboration with the patient. Medication options including orals, injectables, and infusions will be thoroughly discussed, as will lifestyle modifications, bone density, and vitamin supplements. Our pharmacists will counsel the patient on the efficacy and possible side effects of any prescribed medications.
