Every gift to the St. Lawrence Health Foundation has a story behind it.
For some, it's gratitude for lifesaving care or appreciation for a compassionate nurse. For others, it's the commitment to keeping advanced healthcare available in our community. Our donors include grateful patients, dedicated staff members, local organizations, and neighbors who understand that strong local healthcare makes a stronger community. The St. Lawrence Health Foundation raises, invests, and manages funds to strengthen healthcare throughout St. Lawrence County.
Through our partnership with Canton-Potsdam Hospital and Gouverneur Hospital, we transform community generosity into advanced medical technology, enhanced facilities, and expanded healthcare services that benefit our entire region.
Since unifying our hospital foundations in 2021, we've increased our ability to meet critical healthcare needs across our communities. We conduct annual and capital campaigns, coordinate grant funding, and work with donors to create lasting healthcare legacies through planned giving and named gift opportunities.
Our impact is guided by dedicated healthcare and community leaders who ensure every gift advances our mission of keeping exceptional care close to home.

Employee Giving Program
As an employee, you can see the impact of donor dollars firsthand. Each gift supports the advancement of innovative technologies, state-of-the-art equipment, and beneficial programs that ensure you, your loved-ones, friends, and neighbors have access to excellent care.
You can designate your gift to a specific area you feel passionate about supporting, and no minimum gift amount is required. Every dollar makes a difference and is greatly appreciated.
Ways to give:
- Payroll Deduction – Payroll deduction is an easy way to make a bigger impact. You can choose to donate to the area you are most passionate about, or give unrestricted and your gift will go wherever it is needed most. To start giving through payroll deduction, you can print and complete the pledge form and mail it back to the Foundation.
- PTO Donation – Are you unable to use all of your PTO throughout the year? Consider converting hours to dollars, with just a minimum of four hours needed to donate.

“Employees Giving Generously” (EGG) Fund
For 16 years, employees of Canton-Potsdam Hospital (CPH) have donated to the EGG Fund, which supports projects and purchases equipment that are not within current department budgets.
Throughout the year, the EGG Committee members accept applications for projects or purchases of $1,000 or less, and they award funds based on the greatest need.
CPH employees can donate to the EGG Fund through payroll deduction, unused PTO hours, or by making a one-time gift. To give through payroll deduction, complete the pledge form and put EGG Fund as the designation.

Leave a lasting legacy with the St. Lawrence Health Foundation; we understand the transformational power and lasting impact of a planned gift. More than 100 years ago, Henry P. Foster and Gilbert French each left a part of their legacy to establish a hospital in the Village of Potsdam. The Foster and French Society was created by the St. Lawrence Health Foundation to recognize the individuals, past and present, who have made a planned gift to St. Lawrence Health, creating a lasting legacy and improve access to high quality health care, close to home, for current and future generations.
Examples of Planned Gifts include:

We encourage our donors and their financial and estate planning advisors to share their donation plans with us. By informing us of your philanthropic intentions during your lifetime, we can:

A gift of a security, as opposed to a gift of cash, may provide additional tax and financial planning benefits. Gifts of securities include stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Publicly traded securities are easy for the Foundation to receive and use.
A gift of appreciated securities that you have held for more than one year is frequently the most economical way to give. You will be eligible to take a federal income tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the stock on the date of the gift for up to 30 percent of your adjusted gross income and will avoid tax on the capital gain. Following is specific information about how to give securities or mutual fund shares to the St. Lawrence Health Foundation:
Securities are gifted to the St. Lawrence Health Foundation usually in one of three ways:
- In person. The donor or the donor’s agent delivers the unsigned stock or bond certificates (still registered in the donor’s name) to the St. Lawrence Health Foundation or to an authorized representative of the Foundation, along with one signed Stock/Bond Power Form per certificate. Note: The donor’s signature on the Stock/Bond Power must be “guaranteed” through a brokerage or a commercial bank, not a Notary Public.
- By mail. The donor sends the unsigned stock or bond certificates (still registered in the donor’s name) to the St. Lawrence Health Foundation in one envelope. In a separate envelope, the donor sends one signed Stock/Bond Power Form per certificate. Note: The donor’s signature on the Stock/Bond Power must be “guaranteed” through a brokerage or a commercial bank, not a Notary Public. Mail both envelopes via certified U.S. Postal Service to:
